Types of Public Records

In the United States every citizen will have a public record since vital statistics are kept on all citizens. The government records statistics on live births, deaths, marriages, divorces, property ownership, financial transactions, consensus data and other such life event information pertaining to the country's population. These records are collected through a civil administrative system set in place by the government to record vital events in accordance with the legal requirements of the United States.

Birth and Death Records
A birth record is a vital record that documents the birth of a child and is given to every U.S. citizen as proof of birth and proof of citizenship. A birth certificate can refer to the original documentation of the birth or a certified copy of the registration of that birth.

A death certificate documents the event of a person's death. It refers to either a document issued by a medical practitioner certifying a person is in fact deceased or a document issued by a registrar of vital statistics as later entered in an official register of deaths.

Property Records
Property records are documents which confirm the ownership of real estate belonging to a person or organization. They are kept locally at county, district, and state levels regarding the sale and ownership of a house, a piece of land, an office building or an apartment complex. These types of records are meant to document the transfer of property ownership from one individual to another and hold all transactions relating to that property such as taxes, liens and mineral rights. Property transactions typically involve the exchange of money, but can also be in the form of a gift or charity donation. Regardless of whether money changed hands or not, there must be a record of the property transaction with the state.

Credit Reports
A credit report basically documents a person's history of borrowing and repaying money and is used to determine your credit worthiness. Your credit report will include any late payments, credit card accounts, files for bankruptcy, personal loans, mortgages, child support obligations, and if you have had any accounts forwarded to a collection agency. This information is kept by the credit bureaus and is scrutinized  whenever you apply for a loan, bank account, credit card, mortgage, or to any other institution that is lending you money. Whatever information is on file at the time will effect your ability to borrow money and conduct business. This is true even if the information is false. That's why it's very important to know what's on your credit history to ensure creditors, lenders and other companies have provided the most accurate and current data to credit bureaus about you.

Credit information is not provided by VerifyPublicRecords.com's reports – thus you must use a credit service to obtain credit information about a person or yourself.

Marriage/Divorce Records
A marriage record is a document issued that legally binds two people together as a married couple after a valid marriage ceremony has been performed. Whether married in a church or a civil ceremony, it will contain the names of the two people united, the location the marriage took place, the date of the union, and the name of the official who performed the ceremony.

In order to file for a divorce you must prove there was a legal marriage to begin with. You must provide a copy of your marriage license to an attorney who will use it during divorce proceedings to dissolve the marriage. After the divorce has been granted by a judge there will be a record of the divorce recorded with the state.

Military Records
As outlined by the FOIA, military records are available to the general public. Military records can include name, dates of service, branch of service, rank, assignments, locations of service, military training and place of entrance and separation. Other information may also be available depending on a veteran's service record.

Information that can not be released on a public record is any information that is an invasion of privacy. These types of records can only be accessed by the veteran, the veteran's next-of-kin or by a veteran's authorized representative. This type of information includes inpatient and outpatient hospitalization records, mental health records and social security number.
